Hello, I'm new to the site. Glad this is here because I like this software better than Yahoo/MSN. I'm from NYC, but I live in the Washington, DC area now. I travel a lot though so I try to get my mambo on all over. I hope I can add something meaningful to the discussion.

Hi,
I dance in San Francisco. Started Salsa dancing two month ago and am addicted. I am taking group lessons and am struggling along with an intermediate class. I go to clubs several times a week and miss dancing on the nights I don't go out.
The dance scene out here is fabulous!
I have been reading this forum for a while now and just joined...

Hey everyone :)
my name is Triinu, I'm new to the SF - signed up today as I'll be leaving for the UK soon and am trying to get in touch with the local salseras/os, as well as keep myself salsa-conversational even while away my nordic salsa friends ;) Will be wonderful to meet more people who love what you love.
My interest in salsa started about 8 years ago (it was all rather accidental!) and has been developing nonstop since then. I love the Cuban style, the smoothness and energy of it. Just got back from the Tampere International Salsa Festival in Finland and must admit that the classes I took only made me crave for more (if you get a chance to take a guaguancó class from Idalberto Alcala (a cuban teacher who's based in Sydney, Australia), do it - you won't regret it!).
Its great to be here!

Hi,
I'm Roy, from Tel-Aviv, Israel.
In Israel we dance in all salsa styles, it seems that every 3-4 years we need to learn a new style. It started with Columbian and Puerto-Rican style, then Cuban and casino style, then LA style and recently NY on 2.
I'm also a salsa DJ, fan of cuban salsa, but I play all kinds, including Mambo, Puerto-rican and Salsa dura as well.

Hi everyone my name is Octavio Elizarraraz and I've been dancing salsa a few years now.
As I was looking for some good places to dance around my area, I run across this forum. The conversations here seem very interesting to me, all the subjects were familiar. Unfortunately there are some things that I found people not agreeing with, like the person's style, or like if someone is entertaining another, etc. I respect their opinions but I don't think that dancing should be all about style or about entertaining another person or I don't even want to talk about the other reasons.
Before I explain what I'm trying to say in more detail, I would like to talk about the way I dance: I started dancing when I was little as I watch my parents dance, I pay a lot of attention to the way they look at each other, the way they embrace, the way they touch and move to the rithm of the music. They did this every once a month when they felt like, or at my familiy's reunion party.
They dance cha-cha-cha, danson, cumbia, rumba, mambo, salsa, tango, etc. One of the things my father always say to me was: "when you dance son, never forget that you are dancing with a person that thinks, that feels, that have emotions just like you do. Never forget that you are dancing to the rhythm of de music, and with your partner. When you are dancing you only have that song in time, there may be one after this song or there may not be one, who knows, but for know this the only song and the only partner you are dancing with, make it as exciting as you want". He taught me that and more, and I've always respect and admire that, because it has worked for me.
Now back to what I was trying to explain; as I read some of your comments, it seems to me that people have lost that touch when they dance, that every move song and dance have become a routine.
I've dance with a lot of ladies through out my years of dancing, I have taught a lot of people how to dance without they even notincing it and I and some times they want to pay me for that. I tell them, "my reward is the memory that this experience will provided us, lets make it a good one, shall we?".
With this I end what I was trying to say, that's it for now, I wish you the best.
Goodbye:!:

Como estas Salseros y Salseras,
I just joined today and am a new to the Salsa scene. I am from just outside Chicago and am looking forward to visiting some of the clubs. I have been practicing by myself for about a month now, Strictly DVD's and videos. I am a good dancer historically and hope i can make good progress. Unfortunately, i have no partner yet, and it's a little intimidating to get out on the floor after spending a month with an imaginary girl and a dvd. I am happy to be able to join such a lively forum of like-minded people and thanks for your help in advance.

Nontheless I love it there. I good deal of my salsa clothes come from those trips. actually the picture in my avatar was taken in a bar/lounge in the top floor of a skyscraper in singapore

Hello everyone
I'm from South East England and it's really cool I've found this place to discuss salsa. :D
I've been dancing salsa for almost 2 years (LA style) and I am totally addicted! I went to my first weekender at the Brit Salsa fest last February, and I'm really looking forward to my first Congress this September :D
I've just been having a look around reading all the threads, so I'll start posting soon I'm sure.

Hello there! Welcome to salsaForums - nice to see another brit.
I too went to salsafest and am doing my first UK congress next month. I think we should all arrange to hook up at one of the parties and have a mass salsa forums dance - I would suggest a rueda but it's not everyones cup of tea!

Hi, I just found this site while looking for clubs/instruction in my area. I'm a female, Anglo-Saxon, musician/teacher in TX. I just spent the last 9 years down on the border, and recently relocated to San Antonio. I started salsa a couple years ago, and I really enjoy it. I like other stuff too, like sports, but that's for another forum! ;)
I hope to learn a lot here!

Hello everyone.
First post here on Salsa Forums (used to post on Salsa Mafia before it disappeared - it's probably swimming with the fishes somewhere or holding up a motorway bridge).
We're Phil and Kate, have been dancing for 2 years. We're on1 dancers, but can just about fumble through on2 if pushed (and if you don't mind lapsing back into 1 when I lose concentration).
We just got back from Brit Salsafest 2007, having had a fabulous time - Kate is still basking in the afterglow of Marchant Birch's two classes.
Socially, we mainly dance at the Engine Shed events in Wetherby but also get to the Asterdale outside Derby when we can. We've also attended the last couple of 12th Night events in York.
When we find a decent picture of the pair of us we'll put one up so you can recognise us and ask for a dance if you see us about. We're also going to Barcelona in May with the Eagle Tours holiday.
So ... hello to everyone out there. Who knows, maybe we've already met (actually, we DO know Sweavo - Kate always enjoys dancing with him).

That would be fab, Jambo - I think it might be very close to selling out though. THey're running two because this particular event gets so popular. We're on the 19-26 May holiday.
We went last year and it's extremely friendly and well run (apart from my wife losing one shoe). The afternoon dancing on the hotel's piazza right next to the beach, drinking sangria and just chatting away. It's nicely warm rather than scorchingly hot with the sea breeze. There's also people of every level, from absolute newbies going on a crash course, to people who don't go to class because they've nothing left to learn. Marchant Birch took the week's advanced class and it was a dream of a week.
Do let us know if you get on the holiday.

I'm really awful at recognising people, but were you wearing a dark blue hankerchief top and a matching head scarf on Sunday night at Salsafest? If so, yes, I've danced you at both 12th Nights AND Salsafest. And if that is you, you made me feel like a much better leader than I probably am as you're extremely easy to dance with.

Short guy, balding and still nervous at asking women he doesn't already know to dance - instantly recognisable :D - I'm amazed I had the courage to ask you for a dance at that first 12th night as I'd only been dancing for a year and was still very much staying in my comfort zone with people who go to my classes.
Actually, I really enjoy dancing with you - it's always great fun and you follow like a dream. I tend to keep things pretty simple when freestyling - preferring to have a smooth, flowing dance than to try out all the moves I've learnt that day - but now I know you can do quadruple touch-and-go spins maybe I'll go for it next time. ;)

It's okay - the men don't seem to get to know each other as much in salsa unless you attend the same class. Kate's danced with you at the Engine Shed though - she always enjoys it, says you're a great lead and fun too.
Are you off to the new revamped nights at the Wetherby Engine Shed tomorrow? Price has gone up, but there are two sets of classes for beginners, improvers and intermediates -at 8.15 and 9.30 - and they're opening up a second dancefloor, presumably upstairs. It's going on till 2am rather than 1am and food has been promised. It's now £10 before 10pm and £7 after. Our teachers, Deej and Trish, are guest teachers tomorrow along with Sue Spice from Hull and I think in 2 weeks Bill Newby will be teaching tango - there's a whole list of guest teachers and live bands right up until September on a flyer I was sent after 12th Night. It should be a good night, but thought I'd warn about the price increase.

Our class with Salsaholics (used to be Nicky and Gormack, but is now Nicky and her brother Ben) in Otley on a Thursday looks like it's reaching the end of its life due to drastically falling numbers, so we're thinking of going to Lossie and Gareth's classes on a Thursday instead, to improve our On2 technique and meet some new people. Where do you normally park for the class?

Hey KP - does your boss know you're wasting time on t'internet when you should be working?
Our paths have definitely crossed - your description of the Natural Top gave you away!
(My attempt to "quote" wasn't very successful, was it? I never could get the hang of all this gosh-darned new teknolojee)

What's this?
Salsa dancers?
On the internet?
Talking to each other?
Preposterous!
That'll never catch on!

I might have to stop coming on here - after only 2 days - if I have to look at that avatar too often.

I'll remove it should we find it offends your delicate sensibilities...
I only looked in for the first tie yesterday and was surprised to find an extremely familiar description of a Natural Top. Not sure if it's inspiration, or just plain old plagiarism? Nice to know there's at least one person that listens, though!
( though I think I kind of knew that already ;) )

Yep, Trisha and I will be doing a show and tell, and Sue Spice is over from Hull. Actually, do you think anyone would notice if I left Trisha to it and joined in Sue's lessons? :?

You should be good to go now. The problem was that you had BBC code switched off in your profile, not just on that post. The first time I just switched it back on for the post, but when I realized it was a profile setting issue I just went and flipped that back on for you. Should work fine now.

Welcome to SF, Fatboys_Candancetoo :).
:whisper: Wonder if I've danced with you?
I've danced with lots of laydeees (and a few blokes) maybe I have danced with you. And if not, here's hoping that I soon do...
Well now that I know who you are, I know I have danced with you before, but not recently. Hope I'll get a chance for another dance soon.
