View Full Version : Appealing to Some of the Music

Salsa is an extremely appealing music. It attracts just about everyone it comes in contact with. However, today I question the ulterior motives that some of these individuals bring into to the world of salsa...

It seems that more and more the low self esteem individuals are becoming totally in love with the aura of salsa, however, instead of embracing it and turn in into a beauty of its own. They bring into this euphoric world all the labels that so much turn the salsa world into a hated little nook. A low self-esteem becomes even more apparent when their skills increase and they begin to truly bring forward what their propose for joining the salsa world: to unleash a deprived sexual appetite that has long been hidden.

They mesh in with the crowd seeking the like-minded individuals or hoping to attract the unexpected. Destroying a fragile and miss-understood world even deeper. They see the sex appeal of the music and its son in the form of a dance, and only see the craving of a carnal appetite, unknowingly attempting a destruction of the music and its lifestyle for self-gain. A music’s whose roots have nothing to do with the sexual desires of humans.

Little egos seeking even littler egos so surrounded by a coat of dumbness that they think a proud walk is the means of confidence and not a little ego thinking it is a BIG EGO. It is shameful and saddening to see such behavior amongst labeled Salseros. They see nothing passed self-gain and means to spread ill beliefs.

Will it ever stop?
Only each one of us can stop it, but in a world that is ruled by the body’s need for sexual enjoyment, and the mind’s foolish belief that sexual gratification is reason to learn to dance and join a world that only needs less of you, I saddly must believe that it will never stop. Each day more and more my heart leaves dissatisfied in the scene's crop of ill thinking individuals. Each day seeking to show others that a world of sexual fervor to the music alone, is enough to make your existence in its realms quantifiable. When will you learn that you aren’t here for your body but for something far greater than your bodily satisfaction can ever understand?

The further I run from you the closer you get to me, the more I try to ignore you, the more apparent you become, the more I try to enjoy Salsa's world with you, the less enjoyable it becomes. Yet, you only see good coming out of a head that is too dumb and low to think, to represent the true you, and shouldn't be involved in your satisfaction of Salsa.

Wow. Very powerful and thought provoking, Boriken.

I wonder how many people actually "listen", "hear", "feel" the music as they always proclaim though. Probably not many. I like your statement: ....It seems that more and more the low self esteem individuals are becoming totally in love with the aura of salsa, .... ....or their distorted perception of what they think Salsa is...

Will it ever stop?.... I saddly must believe that it will never stop....

I agree. All we can do is try and make sure we represent ourselves well individually, in the Salsa World.

Very good post, Boriken as always. :)

Thankyou for sharing, Boriken!

I wonder if this mentality is a by-product of the modern society we live in. Is is a global issue....? Or does it only exist outside salsa's homelands...?

The salsa world is still evolving. While bad attitudes & behaviours are around, so too, are good attitudes & behaviours. At least we can represent our believes, and show positive examples to the newbies.

This is really what these forums are about, isn't it.....?

We are in it for the love of salsa as a lifestyle, not a show-ring for egos.

boriken, you crossed the t's and dot the i's, as usual... :) I think you are right... I know oh so many individuals of both sexes as you described...

Men taking advantage of the dancing to pick up girls (usually the vulnerable ones, those seekink comfort...) only to dump them in a couple of hours/days/weeks... women doing the same!

I can understand it if one finds a SO, but otherwise, I don't!

but this is just me...

I guess this takes place in any activity/field involving both humans  , and it cannot be stopped!

I've been in a contemplative mood recently, evaluating myself as an individual and examining what I see in the mirror. We bring all of ourselves into dancing, the good, the bad and the ugly. Some, through dance, find a way to more of the goodness in themselves. I found it, then lost it, and now I've found it again. :) The other day I heard this reference from someone about AT. This guy said I like feeling the ladies breasts!! If I wanted to I could have taken advantage of many ladies without them knowing, but that is something I never would do. It is unforgivable.

Well said, and thought provoking as usual, Boriken.

As has been said, I do think it’s symptomatic of society-at-large. People are lacking and are hungry for so much that is missing from the modern day way that we live, including carnal desires, that once a door is opened, all hell breaks loose and morals are thrown by the wayside. And the original beauty and intent of an art is lost and all that is left is one’s basest desires.

But people will be true to themselves and to their own natures. It’s up to the individual to decide what is right and wrong and stand up for one’s moral code, whatever they may be.
