hi everybody,

a newcomer to this site but i've loved salsa for a long time!

i hope this isn't too redundant, but you guys seem a friendly bunch so i'll post it anyways:

my awesome boyfriend, who i met at salsa class, will soon be moving to london. i'm staying here in oxford for the time being, but we wanted to see if we could find lessons that we can do on saturday nights. we do crossbody salsa and currently are starting the intermediate level (out of beginners, intermediate and advanced). the lessons we're used to involve a warm-up, then divide the room (men one side, women the other) and after we've gone through some steps we spend the rest of the time trying them out on different partners.

do any of you know if there might be a similar thing available out there in london?

thanks!

-kristin

Hi Kristin! Welcome to Salsa Forums. Happy to have you here! :D
There are a couple of threads on London that you can browse through below. They include links that may refer you to Salsa schools in the London area. Pacion is a great resource for Salsa info in London so as soon as she has a chance to see this thread, she may be able to help you out a little better. :D Again, welcome Kristin!

hi kristin, funny you say you're in oxford - used to live there till i moved to london, but that was before i started up salsa.
anyways, as to classes in london - saturday isn't great for classes - generally better for general salsa clubbing...
i'll let you know if i hear anything though - off out now to a class and will ask around for you...

oh and the classes are a similar format here in london as well - generally have a warmup then partner up go through a routine step by step then practive the whole thing etc. to music.... ;)

Are there any good salsa clubs or club nights on Friday in South East London? I'm staying in Abbey Wood at the moment.

well, would it be obvious to suggest bar salsa (http://www.barsalsa.info/) for the london salsa scene ? :)

I've heard that, like many clubs in London (and other cities), Bar Salsa does salsa only on certain nights of the week. A friend of mine went there on the wrong night and was very disappointed. :(

Does that count as a breach of Trade Description Act, I wonder?

bar salsa has a salsa night every night except tuesday, however its not always purely salsa, but check out their site:

Hi everybody

i hope i can help out, for kristen who asked about salsa classes on fridays i attend a salsa class near the UCL on fridays, we do need more people to come, so if you want anymore information get in touch with me :)

As far as salsa clubs in london, i could tell u a place for nearly everynight of the week, but i wont bore you with a huge list;
Fridays - Upstairs @ Ronnie Scotts (Club Latino) is always so popular with people ive met on the salsa scene and everyone has a great time.
Thurdays @ Fiesta Havana is always popular too, if anyone wants anymore info i can definitely try and help out

Oh and for sweetmoya have you tried Ministry of Salsa at the Elephant and Castle, thats one of the places i can think of for salsa in south east london, but given time i cud probably think of some in peckham or brixton and deff clapham but id probs need to ask friends if your interested still.

Where i come from, there is a club called zoo, but the only animals you can see are wild people ;)

LOL - I like your sense of humour!

I'll second bar salsa - a great night out and good people - very little 'salsa snobbery' which is refreshing when going to a new place to dance.

Sound is supposed to be good on Tuesdays (Think I'm going next week so I'll report back after!)

Oh and My Place is good on Thursdays in Earls Court (mario & susana teaching)

I'm currently discovering the london scene as I normally travel a lot and salsa round the UK due to promotions so although I live here I don't salsa that much but I'm rectifying that now!!

Hugs
