Anyone used this? What did you think - was it helpful? How does it compare to other dvds you've used?

Great dvd, she demonstrate turns from the right and left for single and double turns. She gets into the fine details of spin. I'm actually a student at Santo Rico, so I use some of her insights into my spins with Santo Rico's method. Basically taking both methods and see what works for me individually. Overall, it's a great dvd.

If you finished her drills you noticed your spins improved in the same afternoon!! you have to do them every day or you'll find no diference. Its very good for male teachers to explain to ladies students.

Interesting. I hear about the Santo Rico method a lot but don't know much about it -- is it very different from what Magna teaches?

I'm curious about Magna's technique. Are her spins taught with weight shift changes throughout?

Brownskin,
I believe it is essentially maintaining your weight on the one foot and pedalling lightly with the other for as long as you need to. Spotting is critical and you have to have good conditioning for the muscles carrying your weight. She recommends exercises to strenghthen those muscles. Spotting is critical to keep you going. Hope this helps...

Salsamakossa is correct, all the spins are done on one leg, with the other foot brushed lightly only for balance purposes. Can anyone elaborate more on the Santo Rico method?

[originally posted when I just started to spin ]
I was soooo inspired to dance with magna but did not feel the DVD helped me that much.
Magna is incredibly beautiful and looks to be so much fun to dance with. A great teacher just that I really need to have someone WATCH me spin and give feedback particular to my body dynamics.
As far as DVDs go though, professional and I love the outtakes :)
[posting now with more spin practice (up to 5 free spins without paddling)]
When I say I do not feel the DVD helped me that much................I was wrong lol. I guess I was frustrated that after watching Magna's AWESOME spins and the dvd, that I could not instantly spin like her......................Well I still cannot BUT not many can AND I get loads of compliments for my spins soooooooooooooooooooooo
I do tihnk that Magna's DVD helped a lot. EVEN MORE so now as it is a great refresher. It is so easy to get bad habits just to try and push through spins instead of letting good technique do the work for us. Hence returning to the DVD is a superb tool. For anyone just starting and considering the DVD, I THOROUGHLY recommend it. BUT if I could tell myself anything it would be PATIENCE and PERSPECTIVE. Don't expect Magna spins overnight but DO expect your own knowledge to improve drastically and if you apply this knowledge, then your spins will improve MASSIVELY!
Then please write up your review/progress so that we can share that too :)

Have you tried the drills in the DVD much? (Note to self: start doing the drills regularly!!)

If you get a chance, take a private with Magna - she's very good at doing this.

Thanks, yeah I have been doing the drills a lot. I find it is great to just feel my body (just like shooting close shots in basketball before moving further away from the hoop).
I would take a private with magna if I get the chance on your recommendation so thanks. WOuld be hard to concentrate with the beautiful magna. With all my drooling it may become a swimming lesson he he :)

Just as an update team,
The OH so lovely and beautiful Magna so kindly contacted me informing me that her website
w w w . magnagopal.com
Is an excellent supplement to the DVD. I did not realise, but there is an excellent question and answer section there.
VERY helpful!
* I suggest that Magna supplies a lifesize picture of herself with every DVD purchase. We can set up the cardboard cut out (with trademark Magna smile) so that we can practice spotting as no one can take their eyes off magna for long he he :)

Sorry for the bump - but I went looking for this DVD and it seems it's no longer for sale :-(
I'm on the lookout for really good spin DVDs and good body movement and patterns DVDs. I have some of Oliver and Luda's, I have Krin and Ivonne's Spin DVDs, I have Super Marios, but I'm feeling the need for more techinical instruction from other well-known instructors.

have you try contacting Magna?. Other options for dvds if hers ( i preffer hers though) are not longer are available,
- Seaon stylist
- Eddie Salsa Freak ( not to keen on her technique, but it works for her)
that being said, no amount of dvds are going to get your spinning better, ( take it from me I have over 60 salsa dvds) practice and more practice, is what is going to get you there.
Imho, the techniques out there while different always comes down to two things: keeping strong core, and spotting, anything else are adjustments to accomplish this two things and that depends from individual to individual.

I know I'm bumping an old topic, but I really would like to find this DVD anywhere I possibly could. Really want to know the exercises, the technique and such (from the best spinner I've seen, with the best spotting / balance I've seen).
