Man, I was just trying to visit this page again and got "Sorry, the page you requested was not found." from Yahoo.

Does anyone knows if the content of that site is available somewhere else?

Sorry for being a spoilsport, but this list has been floating the internet since at least 8 years and I think it's pretty much useless. If you're a beginning leader, the only way to learn salsa is to see, feel and hear - not read. I've put some beginner's tips for learning Salsa on my website http://salsa.romanvirdi.com.

P.S. I have no problems with being proven wrong 8)

Am I the only one who finds this part ironic? So the only way to learn Salsa is to see, feel and hear - not read, but here's my web site go and READ some tips... LOL

:D sorry my post got you confused. There's a difference in "learning how to dance salsa by reading" and "tips on how to start learning salsa". But anyway, if someone does believe you can learn to be a Salsero just by reading, I'd like to open a friendly challenge: Prove that someone who has no dance experience can execute the Salsa basic step and a cross-body lead JUST by reading the description. Here's the description from "Salsa Dance Patterns":

The "forward basic" dance step is:
Music beat Dance step Leader Follower
1 (8 or "and") Transfer weight onto right foot (hold)
2 1 Step forward on left foot (break)
3 2 Rock back onto right foot (rock)
4 3 Bring left foot back (close), without weight transfer
1 (4 or "and") Transfer weight onto left foot (hold)
2 5 Step back on right foot (break)
3 6 Rock forward onto left foot (rock)
4 7 Bring right foot forward (close), without weight transfer

Concept 10: Cross-body lead

1,2,3 Forward on left foot, rock onto right foot, then turn quarter turn to left and step to left on left foot.
5,6,7 Step slightly back on right foot, then turn quarter turn to left and step forward on left foot, then bring right foot forward to closed position

Have fun. Am curious. ;)

I never said you can learn dancing "only" by reading, I just disagree that the site in question was useless. I find it very useful, because

I can, in fact, learn new moves by reading about them
It gives me a clue on how different people think about and do the same moves
It gives me ideas on how I can describe / teach moves to other people
Gives me an idea of what are particular moves called

I like to learn by watching video clips like at this site.
