Okay, so most salsa songs, which are mainly in spanish, tell a story that should interpret/influence the dance with you and your partner. But what if you don't speak/understand the spanish language? I like to find the story in instruments. When there's a prevelant bass line, my dance movement becomes slower, smooth and relaxed. When I hear a prevalent flute, my movement becomes more playful. How do the musical instruments in Salsa affect your dancing?

The theme/mood of any given song can be great indicators of how the song wants to be danced  !
Your subtle (or NOT so subtle) chemistry between the two partners can also become powerful story tellers..........
The instruments can bring out certain moves from us, depending on the vibes out there 8) .
Each dance is a different story.....how cool is that?

To me, this is a very important statement SC. I think many forget about what the music is saying and just do a bunch for spins and turns regard to the music.

Great Thread and posts.
I am exactly the same as original poster. Flute = light, playful. Base/Drum more DEFINED movements in that makes sense.

its not the music that tells the story, its the hidden meaning beyond every instrument ! the finllings that fill the beat is wut rally matter to me.

On that note I make it a point of etiquette not to make a girl shine on the bass solo! It carries the wrong connotations!
