In on1 salsa in the crossbody lead, where do you usually recommend the man step on beat 5?

I usually do this:
forward on 1
back and slightly side on 2
left foot back directly behind right foot on three (this is more of a side step)
replace weight to right foot on 5, but starting to face new dirction.
replace weight to left foot on 6 (facing new direction)
forward on 7 in new direction

Sometimes I see men step more outside the slot on 5, but I don't like this personally. What do you say?

In this area, I see the leads with a pronouced stepping on the odd beats. Pretty much the same as the true slot you describe above. For me, it is better if they are completely open on three so that I can pass safely. Hmm, the leads that are stepping out of the slot as you describe, are they coming from a casino style background in dance? In casino or miami style, there is more of a side to side or circular motion happening. That could be one reason. Just a thought.

What I do the most as a basic CBL is this:

 1: step forward on my left foot

 2: replace my weight back onto my right foot, but initiating rotation to my left and therefore placing my right foot slightly back off the track due to my torso rotation

 3: step my left foot directly to the side from my right foot, 90 degrees from my original alignment

 4: finish transfering weight so that my body weight is entirely over my left foot

 5: shift my weight onto my right foot while initiating torso rotation to my left, back onto my original track (but in the opposite direction)

 6: complete my leftward rotation as I replace weight to left foot on 6 (now facing my new direction)

 7: close my right foot up to my left and start my weight shift from left to right foot

 8: finish transfering weight so that my body weight is entirely over my right foot

Cross Body lead is Dile Que No im guessing?

1. Step foward with left foot
2. tap in place with right foot then come back together and put your hand on her right back shoulder blade.
3.Step back with your right foot and push her slightly to the left then she'll walk over and come back in place. Should be facing her now.
4. Guapea :D

The CBL (also sometimes abreviated as XBL) is to LA & NY styles what the Dile Que No is to Casino. While not actually identical they are quite similar.
