Here's a bit of a plug on behalf of a local DJ who's just launched his new website, called Salsa CD Reviews (http://www.salsacdreviews.com).
There are 220+ reviews on the site at the moment, and he will be adding more regularly. It should be particularly useful for dancers who are getting into the music and want to start building up a salsa CD collection -- I like the the "if you like this CD, also try..." feature.
Welcome to salsacdreviews.com!
As you will have guessed from the domain name, this site is mainly dedicated to providing reviews of salsa cds although I will also be adding some reviews of salsa-related dvds and books. These reviews are short, sometimes just 2 or 3 sentences, and they are intended to let you know which salsa cds are worth buying and also which ones are best avoided.
The cds reviewed in this site cover the entire spectrum of salsa. There are sections for top 4 salsa cds of various origins: New York, Columbian, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and African. If you haven’t got any salsa cds yet, then the cds in those sections are ones which in my opinion should get you hooked on salsa. Click on the cd sleeves to see the reviews of these top 4 cds. The section ‘Top 20 salsa cds 2004-5’ gives my recommendations for some of the best new stuff to have come out recently. The majority of the cd reviews appear in the section ‘Other cds’ and there is a search box to locate specific artists.
This website does not sell cds, but where possible, I will be providing links to other websites that do sell cds. I have also included a section ‘If you like this, also try...’ which hopefully some people will find useful. I will be regularly adding new content and links to the site.
Finally, “who the hell are you?”, I hear you cry. Well, I have been promoting and dj’ing salsa nights since 1997, mainly in the UK (Edinburgh and Glasgow) but also internationally in places like China (Zapata’s, Shanghai) and Japan (Club Salud, Tokyo). Check the ‘Salsero’ section for dancers’ comments about my nights. There is a Guest Book if you would like to say anything about the site. Gushing praise would be welcome, but if you disagree with any of my cd reviews feel free to point out my lack of insight and taste.
