:| So do you all think that the videos and special styling classes are enough for a Salsera that doesn't have the time to devote to practicing for performances right now? I know that performing forces you to get faster and sharper but does one have to perform to be a really good salsa dancer? I know it depends on whether you are just interested in dancing socially or not but when you go out to dance socially the performers tend to stick with other performers/pros and I'd like to dance with them.

 Also I can't have male partners I started out with getting ahead of me. I just can't have that happening!!!!
Yeah, Eventually I'm gonna have to block out some time and perform.
What do you all think?
:?:

Hey, I just read some of the thread "You're good, They're good, can't dance together... Hmmmmm...that puts it into perspective a little more.

Hi ArtsySalsera. :D For me, my first love will be "social" dancing. I don't really care for performing BUT I admire those that do. I also think that in order to become a good dancer, you don't have to necessarily be a performer. It just depends on what your goals are and how much you put into it. More importantly, it is the time you devote to practice. Videos and special styling classes are good but there is nothing like actually getting out there and dancing with many, many different dancers. From what I can see, most Salsa performers ARE social dancers as well so it just depends on your area and what your Salsa scence is like. Any others here with some input about pros and the social scene in their area?

Yes, I have lots of videos that I've been studying and practicing at home from them.
I haven't been going out as much as I used to though
just once or twice a week to a dance and once a week to
a special styling class.
This week 2 classes and a New Year's dance.
I and I've been told others consider me a really good dancer but am not always bold in asking guys to dance. It takes a lot for me to do that.

Yeah, maybe after the holidays things will pick up. :D Do you have a regular dance partner? SC has started a tread on it here  Pro/Con of having a dance partner (www.salsaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=213)
