Vinyl Re-issues vs Original Press

Can anyone comment on the quality of the various Salsa vinyl re-issues? (Hector Rivera, Ray Barretto etc...) Are these re-issues generated from the same source as the originals? Is the press/vinyl quality good?

taking apart the nostalgic reasons and adding more options to turnable owners, I don't see any practical purpose to bring vinyls back. the CD option and their players still are cheaper than the vinyl counterparts.

this new offerings bring more questions than answers. maybe the record companies could let us know more info about this.

are this made from the original vinyl masters?... or this are made from a newer digitally remastered version?...

does the record companies really make significant revenues selling this format?

why did the record companies doesn't better focus on bringing back most of their catalog on CD's or digital downloads?

I bought a vinyl version re-issue from Ocho's Tornado (Volume 4) a few weeks ago. I don't know how the original LP sound quality is, but this one sounds pretty bad. Sure a remastered CD version is preferred.

For sure, if a quality digital release exists it is preferred!

The problem is that as far as I can tell certain albums with vinyl re-issues (ex: Hector Rivera - Hecto Mania) have never had a digital/CD release. Makes no sense to me but that seems to be the way it is!

If they want to release the LP's, that's ok. But please bring them also in a digitally remastered version.

I listen to vinyl at times, but I only have a small select collection (about 50 LP's) of Salsa, Jazz and Brazilian music. It's a sort of mini-hobby for me. I have steered clear of the vinyl reissues, instead looking around on occasion for an original pressing in good condition.

I have seen the brand new shrink wrapped reprints in stores but I don't see any benefit to buying them. I think it is pretty much a gimmick move by the record companies to capitalize on the so-called "vinyl comeback".

Most of the original vinyl pressings I have sound marvelous. Some not so much.
