Dancing in Atlanta

Thought I would get a salsa in Atlanta thread going since I have been here 4 months now! (and leaving soon)

Pasofino (http://www.pasofinodance.com/atlanta/index.php) - This studio is all about Salsa, plus Bachata, Cha Cha and some Brazilian dancing. Run by Jose Maldonado and Lucy Lu
Jimmy Rumba (http://www.jimmyrumba.com/) - a leading instructor in Atlanta covering many venues and with other instructors that work with him. He came from LA a number of years ago. In Buckhead off Miami Circle. Good parties.
Salsa Casino (http://www.salsacasino.com) - started by Julian Mejia, they mostly work out of Academy Ballroom in Buckhead and some nearby clubs. Also on Miami Circle.

FWIW, there is a Cuban Salsa Congress next weekend (June 1-3) in Atlanta with somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 workshops over the course of three days and dance socials at night at the Georgia Tech Student Center. I'd post a link, but the last time I did I was told that it is against the guidelines to post links in this section. You can easily find it with a Google search.

Two nights in Atlanta: Tuesday 4/29 and Wednesday 4/30. Where should/could I go? I dance on 1 or 2, but not Cuban. Thanks!

David, is Sanctuary and Tongue and Groove still open ?..if so, they were the best 2 venues .
Tand G was only on Wed nites.. Sanctuary Fri and Sat .

If anyone is interested in lessons, whilst visiting , check out a buddy of mine.. George Morales.

For those that dont know Atlanta, the "action " , club wise ,is mainly in an area called Buckhead .

Thanks, Terence. From the web site, Sanctuary is on Fridays, and Tongue and Groove is on Wednesdays.

On Wednesdays there also seems to be The NEW Latin Elegance Wednesdays @East Andrews & Andrews Upstairs - 56 East Andrews Drive, Atlanta, Georgia.

So I'll plan checking out Tongue and Groove this week, unless anyone recommends Andrews Upstairs instead.

The E Andrews location was the old Sanctuary, but the owner gave up the lease ( big mistake ! ). So,Im wondering if its still owned by Jorge ( his wife does door duty ). This was a truly latin club, and had some of the best DJs work there ( Tito for e.g. ) . The staff are all hispanic, which gives it a good atmosphere. .The dance floor is not the largest, but THE best in the city, as clubs go.

I danced there, every Fri and Sat. for many yrs. If you go there, mention my name to Jorge ( hes alway there ) . Both clubs open at 10pm.

T and G is more cosmopolitan, and is on Peachtree, with high volume traffic and has ..

limited parking. They are relatively close to each other.

E.Andrews, is on a side street, off a main thru street on which is the Governers Mansion ( W. Paces ).Parking at Sanctuary, if early is usually OK, and its off street .
IF the DJ at Sanctuary is still Tito.. say Hi to him , from me .

I do Envy you !!
