The holiday season salsa hiatus.....

What hiatus?

Actually, I went dancing on Christmas Day in Amsterdam. The event started at 10pm with a class and went on till 4am. I got there and back by train (yes trains and buses run as normal on Christmas Day :D). The turnout was good and I had a great time :) The weekly socials seem to be on throughout this week, and there's a NYE salsa party and a New Year's Day salsa matinee to look forward to. I can definitely recommend The Netherlands for your next Christmas salsa escape ;)

What's up with the non-smiling smilies? What kind of hiatus is there where you live?

In Houston, the Latin clubs get a lot busier around any holiday, so there was no real hiatus during this holiday season. (Indeed, I know of at least one Latin club that was open on Christmas night.) I'm actually looking forward to a great week of dancing this week, just like I had last week. :)

Usually there are 4-7 decent salsa or bachata parties in Helsinki every week. Something to choose from. Last week there was only two smallish party nights, but I had other arrangements. This week there will one small salsa party on new years eve, but I probably have to skip it as well.

london is dead. not only salsa scene, in general dead. no transportation etc. but it's getting lively again :)

Locally, nothing from mid December until (probably) mid January. :(

And since a quarter of the population here is students, January is also expected to be a bit slow. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong but we won't be starting a new regular course before (mid) February.

I think Americans don't have strong ties with customs and this kind of religious events

Salsa is the religion is some parts of the Americas, i.e. Cali Colombia

Also, they celebrate early on Christmas eve with family and then its party party party for the rest of the holidays.

In Sydney Salsa is rocking right now. It's a pity I'm in Canberra for the week though as there is *no* salsa to be seen - it's weird!!!

I usually visit relatives and so I dont do much salsa dancing around x'mas. That is the only difference for me. Actually I don't do any dancing. I went out on the 23rd, and it was quiet, but I had a fantastic time as I used the opportunity to get to know a few people better.
