Aloha SF,
Hope everyone is dancing their tails off. I just wanted to make a thread to let you guys know I will be competing alongside my partner Kimberly for the World Latin Dance Cup. We qualified back in July at the Summer Salsa in Paradise. We took first place, so I guess I'll humbly say we are the Hawaii Salsa Champions 2011
In regards to how everything went with our training and rehearsals... it was grueling, challenging emotionally and physically. As a couple we never truly looked at ourselves as a competition couple. However, it was an opportunity we felt transcended our personal goals in salsa. We're representing a small island out here in Hawaii and although we aren't the first to compete at the world level, we wanted to be the best.
We rehearsed 3-4 days a week for 2-2.5 hours balancing between school (I'm in college) our jobs (I work two other jobs, partner owns a business) and relationships (both of us are taken, she is married).
As all couples, we do have our disagreements in terms of how we wanted to present our routines and we actually had a bad argument one time because we weren't having the best rehearsal and it just spewed negative energy.
Anyways we leave tuesday and have a whole 5 days in Vegas... should be exciting
I'll update you guys on what happens if I'm not completely taken away by the actual event itself. Wish me luck!
