Okay, so you've been going to the clubs, entering competitions or teaching classes continuously for the last eight months. All of sudden one night, you feel as if Salsa just doesn't do it for you anymore. You still love it but it has somehow become more work than the passion you had in the beginning. Yes, it's terrible. You have Salsa Blues. Alot of us may find ourselves in that rut from time to time. When that happens, what do you do to refurbish the passion and get rid of those blues?

I think the cure for the Salsa blues is finding a source of new inspiration. Go to a new club. Seek out a new teacher. Travel to a Salsa Congress. Buy a new instructional video. Start hanging out with a different group of people than normal. Those are just some ideas I had.

Try a different dance, or a new hobby? I have become really picky and I need certain things in order to have a good dance/night. Good thing for me is that the rueda practices last week were fabulous so that helped.

Or, come down to Ithaca! :)

:D That's what I'm doing now.
I have to keep myself from getting bored.
I joined another styling class with a different teacher
and have been going to NY more to dance on two and
dancing that with whomever I can find in Philly.
I think you always have to push yourself and not
become complacent. I'd love to perform but can not
commit to it right now. My Salsa Art keeps me busy. :D

I've always thought that would be a cool thing about living in the Northeast. If you get bored with the scene in your city, there are other cities nearby.

I got the salsa blues, I am just trying to ride it out. I am not going back until I need a fix. 3 days and counting.

Vin, not wanting a fix for three days and counting... :( Are you okay? The holidays can be a little stressful...

Besides the things mentioned earlier, if I'm feeling burnt out, I'll generally just take a break until I'm hungry again.

Yeah, I'm thinking something that is totally seperated from dance for a while would be good. Sometimes that can give a sense of refreshment once you return. For me, I concentrate on the music. That has help me alot. Anyone else?

Luckily I haven't had one yet. I haven't been dancing long -- it's only been 15 months since I took my first step into social/club dancing, and these 15 months have been one huge big amazing rollercoaster ride! I've done three weekenders/congresses and went to dance in London too. I've met lots of people through salsa, in and outside my scene. These experiences keep me inspired. I've learned a lot over the last 15 months, but there's so much more to learn! :D

The best idea is to go on a holiday some place with (1) no salsa, so you'd be dying for it when you come back; or (2) better salsa city, so you either evolve into the next stage (yay!), or get your butt kicked big time (enough to give you new motivation to keep climbing  ).
