TED Talk: Beware online "filter bubbles"

A fascinating TED Talk on the effect of content personalization on the democratic ideal of the Internet. 9 minutes and not the least bit boring, check it out!

Excerpt: "This moves us very quickly toward a world in which the Internet is showing us what *it* thinks we want to see, but not necessarily want we *need* to see."

I heard about this on a different news outlet and have been acting accordingly. I have many progressive left facebook friends and as of late (after I heard the feature) I have been resisting the urge to post comments or clicking on their links. My views would tend to be a moderate/liberal counterpoint but facebook doesn't treat them that way. It treats them as if these are the people I most want to interact with. I also switched my newsfeed to >Most Recent<. Not sure what to do about google searches though.
