Anyone have any crazy home remedy ideas for a cold given to them by their parents. My mom use to always use that Vicks vapor rub for congestion. She'd actually make me eat it. Ewww! I still have nightmares. *shudder*

In Japan, an old folk remedy was to wear a string of onions around your neck. One of my students told me her grandmother told her to stick green onions up her nose when she had a cold! Over here, a common belief is that gargling prevents getting colds! When that doesn't work(as it usually doesn't), people flock to the hospitals, giving all the nurses and doctors their germs!

I had asthma pretty bad when I was young so having a cold usually triggered it. In all the sickness chaos, my mom, bless her heart, use to make me eat vicks vapor rub. :? :nope:

My husband's cold and flu cocktail:
1/3 Hot orange juice with
1/3 mango or peach nectar with
1/3 vodka

By the time you wake up your body has had time to fight off the cold so you feel like it actually worked.
