I've noticed here in Atlanta that the clubs that have a Salsa Night tend to mostly cater to young people, but there are a couple of clubs that are exclusively salsa (not just a salsa night), and they have more middle aged people. What is it like in your town?

Same here. I've noticed most of the more popular clubs are pretty much marketed for people between the ages of 18-25. However, for the older crowd, there is the more dinner club setting at a fine restaurant with maybe a live band on the weekend. Anyone else?

Over here the dance scene is pretty small. My guess is that the Latin nights draw college age kids and young professionals, and some older folk. Just the fact that these events run late at night excludes many of the older people. There also is the intimidation factor. It's not something that I personally understand, but I accept that it is there. :?

This is true where I live also. I can only think of 1 venue that is not an exclusively salsa place to hold a latin night (Lotus bar). And there, you'd find most people who go there are younger 18-late 20s/early 30s. The music starts at 9pm and by 10:30pm, there would be 1 salsa in every 15 reggaeton/r&b.
Other salsa exclusive places with bands attract more mixed age groups. Although i think majority of the salsa dancers in melb are aged around the late 20s to late 30s.
There is this one bar which just started up recently starts 5:30pm and finishes 9pm attracts mostly families with kids (latinos) + older dancers. They play son, cha cha, bolero and salsa.

I guess that's what's nice in the UK - you get people in the clubs from 17 to 70 and everything in between - obviously there are more people from the middle ranges but the beauty of it is the complete mix of ages, cultures, races, etc - I love it!! :D
