I'm planning a trip to Montreal next month and want to check out a few Salsa spots. I've searched, but I know things change. Any tips? Which nights are best? What times? What style prevails? What are the best clubs?

If you want to Salsa in Montreal, Canada, you can do so every day of the week and you have actually several choices. On1 style is prevalent but a lot of people like on2 and Rueda.
Here's the breakdown

Mondays:
Club 6/49. (including free beginner class) Big dancefloor, no cover, good service.
Restaurant La Station. A bit crowded -not really a club- but they have been having a Salsa night for the last two years.

Tuesdays: Bar-terrase Le Chaz. (during summer months) Outside terrace, small dance floor but great ambience.

Wednesdays: The Salsatheque Club. No cover, medium sized floor, crazy decor, great DJ, (just the right proportion of Salsa to Merengue and Cha-cha), good dancers and once a month, a dance show, sometimes professional, sometimes amateur. Some rueda teams gather here to practice.

Thursdays: Salon Daomé. $7.00 cover, big dancefloor, good dancers. Very crowded. They need better air conditioning (never wear your really good clothes because you will be dripping sweat within minutes.) Also, the DJ needs some new CD's

Fridays: Cactus Club. $7.00 cover, two small dancefloors but great ambience. The best mojito in town. Lots of salsa students practicing.

Saturdays: Cubano's Club. $7.00 to $15.00 cover depending on the band. This club seems to have first pick on whatever band is visiting Montreal. Big dance floor, good dancers. Expensive drinks though.

Sunday afternoon: The Old Port. Outdoor event at the waterfront. $3.00 cover, family atmosphere, cheap drinks, every week a different Montreal Salsa school puts on a show.
During the cold months, this event is held at Baccis Poolroom. The floor is not very nice but it is big and the atmosphere is great. Free Rueda class.

Sunday Night: The Salsatheque hosts the Fuego Salsero Sunday Night Salsa Party. No cover, cheap drinks, guest DJ's, almost 100% Salsa and the meeting point for some of the best salsa dancers in Montreal. Professional shows every week. The best party of the week.

I read about a merengue and latin music festival coming up in Montreal on July 22nd to 23rd - it looks fun -does anyone know anything about it?

I am from Montreal, but I dont live there anymore! I was back home last summer, and was told that the best dancing is Sunday night, in 6/49...I was there and was not dissapointed! Maybe it has changed, but I doubt it. That was when all the good dancers came out. There was outdoor salsa at the old port all summer, maybe it is still on this year too. There was also the cactus club, I think that is what it was called, that was on thursday night, was lots of fun too. I did however find lots of info on the net...so keep looking!

Best salsa night in mtl with good salsa classic music and latin jazz

Tuesday = Salon Delima ( on1 and on2 Dancers)
Thursday = Salon Daomé or Moka Danse ( on1 and on2 Dancers)
Saturday = Moka danse ( on1 and on2 Dancers)
Sunday= 649 et caroline pare social night ( on1 and on2 Dancers)

there are other club but i think my suggestion are mostly the best for Salsa NY style on1 or on2
