Finally, Winnipeg's got a Salsa Community Portal (http://www.salsawinnipeg.com). Our community was steadily growing for the past three years and now we have the means to make it even better.

The goal of our site is to provide information to: Salsa enthusiasts, who like to stay up to date with Salsa events in our city.
Beginner Salseros and Salseras, who are just starting to discover Salsa scene in Winnipeg.
Visitors from out of town, who wish to do some Salsa / Latin dancing and don’t know where to go.
We already have quite an impressive set of features on our site. List of local dance schools that teach Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Casino Rueda and other dance lessons. This is the section you might want to check if you are interested in taking some Latin dance classes and want to learn more about instructors that teach in Winnipeg.
List of venues where you can go out and “bust your move”. Here you’ll find a constantly updated list of night clubs that have regular Latin nights.
Events Calendar and News sections where you can learn all about Salsa related events that go on in our city: workshops, parties, concerts, socials, showcases… you name it.
Online Forum, just like this one, allows you to actively participate in our community. Here you are able to share you thoughts and experiences with other dancers, discuss and comment on clubs and instructors, give advice to beginner dancers and learn something useful from more advanced. Talk about anything related and not related to Salsa, what Salsa music you like, what instructional videos you were helpful to you, who is you favorite dancer…
In our media galleries you’ll be able to find pictures and videos from dance events, Salsa showcases and workshops that took place in Winnipeg.

Come, visit "Salsa in Winnipeg (http://www.salsawinnipeg.com)" and help our community grow!

I really like the layout and portal feel of the site. I think it is surely a great resource for Salsa dancers in Winnipeg.
Thanks for submitting this. :D

Sure thing!
Thanks for noticing (almost two month later)
But seriously, I love this forum, it's a great resourse and it means a lot to me that you, guys like our portal. I hope one day we would get as many posts as you have here.
I was wondering if you have any tips on how we can improve our site to make sure dancers in our community visit it more often and make full use of it. Perhaps, an advice on how we can promote it better, make it more interesting, etc... Right now our main problem is to get more people to start using the forum we have. Any ideas? Any feedback is apriciated.

If you could just get 4-5 people to all agree to post back and forth over a period of a couple of days, you could easily get 100 or more posts. Once you hit 1000, it should start to go on its own accord.

That's what I noticed about this forum and DF. It's mostly same 5-6 people constantly posting and replying to new posts. I'll try to get a few people to do that as well. Thanks for advice. For now, though, I'm thinking what would make more people come to the site in the first place...

Hmmm... that's not exactly accurate Sergei. Here at the SF we still have a relatively small core group but, then again, this site is much newer than the Dance Forums site. If you look at the Dance Forums, however, there are 11 people with over 2,000 posts, 24 people with over 1,000 posts, 46 people with over 500 posts, 74 people with over 250 posts, and 114 people with over 100 posts.

Salsero's point is that people like to get involved in active sites, not just informative ones. People can access the information at your site (which is very good) without getting involved so posting good information, on its own, won't change that. That's why having a handful of people interacting with each other (i.e. cross posting) is so important as a stepping stone, if provides a point of engagement for others who are browsing your site for the first time.

I understand. I didn't mean to say that there's only few people that are using the forum. When I said 5-6 people I was refering only to one particular forum (the Salsa forum), not the entire site, and I was refering only to people that are constantly posting, i.e. they would all reply to any post every single time, sort of like hardcore posters that are always there and always participate. I do realize that there's much-much more active posters than 5-6 :)

And I see now that I need to get at least a few active, hardcore posters to interest others in joining the discussions.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I do appriciate it. If you have any more ideas or suggestions, please, do let me know. ;)
