I keep hearing Salsa music in the oddest places... in movies that have nothing to do with dance or music... in commercials on TV... in restaurants etc...
And I have been asking myself recently: is Salsa music trendy nowadays??? What do you think?

Yes, I certainly think so. I'm hearing just basic Clave all over the place. On TV, on the radio basically anywhere. Almost like a subliminal message in some cases. Good on one hand but on the other and since I'm an avid lover of the music, I hope people don't think that's what Salsa is supposed to be. Just something to get you excited and go to some restaurant or buy a bag of lettuce.

Yeah, even in Japan, as background music on variety shows and CMs all the time now! There's an actor, Ken Matsudaira, who dresses as samurai in gold lame and does the samba! (It's called "Matsu-ken Samba"" and folks young & old are humming along!) Saw a commercial this morning where a sexy ballroom latin couple was touting a hair-growth product called "Gush". (Had a tad of decent dancing & catchy music at least!)
