I've taken several of Salomon Rivera's classes at JC Fandgos (in So. Cal). He always mentions his dvd at the end of the class. Only fifty dollars!
Well, I finally decided to bust out the cash and buy it.
The dvd is about two hours long and there are seventy seven combinations in it.
Salomon assumes you know the basic steps and doesn't really bother to break down the move (ie, he doesn't say, "on one you move this foot, on two you move this foot and put your arm here..."). Instead, Salomon and Wakana perform the move, then Salomon does a short breakdown of what you are supposed to do.
The dvd is broken down into seven different sections. The sections are Alternating Turns, Half Turns, Gancho For Men (basically a right turn, then hook turn), Wraps, Cumbias, Spirals, and the last section consists of what he calls Latin Hips Cool Combinations.
These moves aren't really just one 'move'. For example, one combination would consist of a turn followed by a cross body lead, then another turn, then a turn for the lady followed by a turn for the man.
All the moves are very leadable. If you are an advanced dancer, you may find this dvd somewhat basic. As somebody who is relatively new to salsa, quite a few of the moves in the dvd had me thinking to myself, 'self, why didn't you think of that?'
While there's no way I'm going to remember all 77 moves shown in this dvd, in my opinion, it certainly was well worth the money.
The only thing that bothered me about the dvd, is that occasionally, before the move, Salomon would say "ooooyyyyyhhh!". I think he was feeling the music and just expressing himself. Heh. I'm not even sure he was aware that he was doing it. :)
Anyways, I found this dvd quite helpful and wanted to make you all aware of it. You can check it out at www.latinhips.com
