Hailed for their “adventurous sonic concepts and hook-laden songs” (Village Voice) with “plenty of sabor and verve,” (Descarga.com) Bio Ritmo’s “tight cooking ensemble” (Global Rhythm Magazine) brings their downright flammable blend of salsa, plena, bomba, and other Afro-Cuban beats, interlaced with electronica, Brazilian samba, classic jazz harmonies, funked-up improvised jam sessions with explosive brass and passionate vocals to Guelph's E-Bar on Apr. 13 and then Toronto's Lula Lounge for a “notorious guaranteed good time” (Washington Post) on Apr. 14.

Never afraid to break the rules, Bio Ritmo started off a percussive “punk salsa experiment” in the early 1990’s. Without sacrificing the same innovative spirit they started out with the band evolved into a full-fledged Salsa powerhouse. With backgrounds as varied as punk, jazz, reggae, and classical music, and like the great innovators before them, Bio Ritmo aims to explore and expand the boundaries of salsa music with an original repertoire while propelling audiences to the dance floor. Their unusually profound and introspective lyrics reflect an individual’s inner struggles and immediate relationships with the outside world, unapologetically exposing their own vulnerability, something rarely displayed in today’s mainstream culture.

Winners of the 2003 Disc Makers Award, finalists in the 2004 Independent Music Awards, and featured on Latin Beat Magazine’s 2005 “Siempre Salsa” CD of the best indie salsa, Bio Ritmo is indeed a band on the rise. Following their critically acclaimed 2004 self-titled release, Bio Ritmo is launching its latest EP “Salsa System” this spring, produced by legendary engineer/producer and 18 time Grammy award winner Jon Fausty. Listen up!

“A tight cooking 9-piece ensemble, the band lays claim to the brassy Latin dance sound of the 70’s. Bio Ritmo represents the sentiments of a younger dance crowd searching beyond the jejune prescription and superficial flash of Latin pop.” ~ Global Rhythm Magazine

"The passionate, unashamedly retro sound is fresh because the band captures the same verve as the original innovators. Sometimes they do make 'em like they use to.” ~ Exclaim! Magazine

"They prove it is still possible to be true to the roots while expanding the parameters of their music in an intelligent, thoughtful and entertaining way. We want more groups like Bio Ritmo." ~ The Beat Magazine
