Salsa weekenders

I need some advice on salsa weekenders - in particular the MamboCity congress at Heathrow in May and the Pontins weekender at Pakefield in June.

I am considering Mambocity although I don't know if I can make it. I would appreciate any opinions about it from people who have been there - how was it? workshops? parties? anything I should know before I decide? etc.

As for Pontins, I have already booked, so I'm going but it would be nice if you have any advice for me or any particular information you think I would need when I prepare. Did you like it? What should I expect? What should I watch out for? What was the level of dancing? Styles? Anything would be useful.

And thanks a lot!

MamboCity is one of my all time favourite congresses. It's compact, convenient (all under one roof and easy reach from Heathrow Airport), has multiple rooms to dance in with different types of music (mambo room vs cuban room), quality lineup of performers/instructors, shows not overlong, good standard of dancing at the parties with on1, on2 and Cuban style all represented, nice laid-back afterparties... I'd definitely go if I could (unfortunately London is a bit too far away for me right now and I've already spent my UK trip quota this year ).

I've never done any Pontins events, but from what I've heard from my friends, it's much less of a serious congress-type event, with the focus more on fun. I can't remember what theme the Pakefield event had (there are several Pontins salsa weekenders throughout the year, with different levels and themes), but generally the level of dancing is not as high as congresses, and with less salsa stars on the dancefloor, it's much less intimidating so particularly good for someone who has never done any salsa congresses/weekenders before.

Thanks MacMoto! That was really useful information. MamboCity sounds great. That's the kind of event I would like to go to, just have to see if I can make it.

Is there anybody here who has been to the Pakefield one?

Hello

Ive just joined the forum to give you some info about Pontins Pakefield.

Ive been going there for the last lot of years as its in my region. (Ive also been to some of their other venues) Its situated by a beach which is a bonus if the suns shining.

The nice thing is that you usualy get some great dancers from 'up north' and it is a friendly laid back weekend. I do think over the years some people have stopped going as theres a huge choice of weekenders/congresses now but theres always some great dancers there. Its not clicky at all.

It usually very busy (2 years ago I was trodden on the 1st night & couldnt dance the whole weekend.)

I would recomend it & will probally be there myself

Hello there 2 u 2 ;)

Thanks you so much! That's great info, sounds very promissing. Just one more question - does it attract mostly on1 dancers? or are there some on2 as well? it's advertised as cross-body event so I don't assume there will be too many cuban dancers.

There is quite a lot of cuban style dancers & out that way they do have a cuban club, not so many on 2 dancers,.

Theres usually a swiming pool salsa party which "Rohan" organises. Ive not been to it though & usually some outside parties during the weekend.Saturday night has been dress to impress for the last couple of years.

The dancing goes on till 5ish. Im sure they used to go on till 7am!

Breakfast is very good & dinner is OK too.

hope you have a fab time & let me know if you have anymore questions

Wow, swimming pool party... :) Maybe not exactly my cup of tea... But everything else sounds promissing! I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks again for the info - very helpful, now I know what to expect.
